QUEER'SAY: The Breakup Monologues
Fri Nov 17, 19:00
Performance, Rich Mix, £8 / £6 con
Award-winning broadcaster and comedian Rosie Wilby hosts a comedy special edition of this popular queer chat show podcast to be recorded for Resonance 104.4FM.
Her three guests will tell their relationship breakup stories and then explore some of the following questions…
Tragedy plus time equals comedy, right?
Does the language we use around our relationships and their endings influence how we behave and feel? How does technology impact how we get together and then disentangle? If we were non-exclusive romantically, could we eradicate the need for dumping one another?
Rosie Wilby’s nonfiction book Is Monogamy Dead? is out in 2017 following her trilogy of solo comedy and theatre shows investigating love and relationships. The Conscious Uncoupling, the final part of this trilogy, was programmed for Southbank Centre Festival of Love and shortlisted for Funny Women Best Show 2016.
Elf Lyons was named on the BBC Talent Hotlist 2017 and Vogue’s ’20 Names of Now’. A recent graduate of L’Ecole Philippe Gaulier, she has been described by The Guardian as ‘the fast-talking, smart-thinking standup for whom the adjective ‘kooky’ could have been invented. Also recently shortlisted for the Best Show Award at Edinburgh Fringe 2017!
VG Lee’s fifth novel Mr Oliver’s Object of Desire is out now. She started performing comedy to huge acclaim in her sixties and is a regular favourite at Paul Burston’s Polari literary salon. She will be our resident agony aunt, responding to letters of relationship woe selected from her postbag.
